Photography is my passion.
I love waking up early to capture the mist rising on the lake, or to witness the rainbow of dawn’s colors as they are painted across the sky. A great photo takes planning, preparation and a bit of luck and timing, but it still feels like a gift that I receive when I’m out there and it all comes together. I love to tell stories with my pictures, too, and to travel the world seeking the light and the life of everything out there.
As a professional photographer for over 25 years, I have worked with many clients to help them communicate their message visually. I’ve done editorial assignments for Alaska Airlines, Audubon, Navigator, Northwest Traveler, Sunset, Travel-Holiday, and more. My photographs have been licensed for a variety of uses from ads to books to posters, DVD, calendars to greeting cards. I photographed the award-winning books Muir Woods: Redwood Refuge, and Marin Headlands: Portals of Time, (GGNPC), and have contributed to many other books produced by Chronicle, Michelin, National Geographic and Sierra Club.
I’ve been fortunate enough to be featured in PhotoArt , Rangefinder, Outdoor Photographer, Studio Photography and Design, and CANON’s Insight magazine. I co-starred in three episodes of CANON’s Photo Safari television program. Getty Images and Danita Delimont represent my stock photography, and I will also be fully marketing my own on-line stock photo collection soon.
I’m a writer, teacher and speaker, too. I’ve written for Outdoor Photographer, Photo Migrations, Apogee Photo, TakeGreatPictures.com and PPA. I’ve given many visual presentations to thousands of people – for organizations such as The Mountaineers Club, American Society of Media Photographers, St. Louis Camera Club, Northwest Council of Camera Clubs, The Century Club, and Photo Plus Expo.
As a teacher, I love to ignite the passion in others to explore their world more deeply, and become the best photographer they can be. I am highly regarded for my compassionate yet helpful critiques and my personal assistance in the field. I teach many workshops annually, through my own company, Awe and Wonder Workshops, and through Maine Media, Santa Fe Photographic Workshops, Mountain Light, Toscana Photo Workshops, Pacific Northwest School of Arts, and more.
I am based in Sonoma County, California. When I’m not on the road, I can be found hiking, biking, gardening, and chasing the light with my camera in our beautiful area with my partner and our loyal dog, Mocha.
I hope we’ll have an opportunity to work together on a project or in the field at a workshop or photography tour. I love creative endeavors.
