Glacier Bay National Park, Alaska.
An instructional photography tour Led by Brenda Tharp and Jed Manwaring.
June 29-July 7, 2010. 3 spaces left.
Glacier Bay is the penultimate experience of Southeast Alaska, also known as the Inside Passage. Calving tidewater glaciers, magnificent, dramatic scenery, and an abundance of bird and mammal life in the park and outside the entrance to it make this an incredible photo opportunity. A not-to-be-missed location. Where larger cruise ships can get you in to see the main attractions, our compact boat, the Delphinus, guarantees that you'll truly experience the park and it's beauty in a way no large ships can offer. Frequent shore excursions are planned to experience the wildflowers and the geology and to photograph them. Unlike larger boats, we stop for wildlife encounters and spend the time to capture it all in our cameras. Whales, sea otters, bears, sea birds, and Orcas are all possible on this journey. Jed and Brenda will be on hand to give you helpful advice for making the best photographs you can.

A photo workshop.
August 22-28, 2010.
Space is filling...deadline is approaching
Developing personal vision and mastering the craft of photography are the two key elements in creating expressive photographs. In this workshop, you will be immersed in an exhilarating environment while Brenda guides you in creating artistic photographs of the place. The workshop will focus on developing a creative eye while exploring some of the finest locations Iceland has to offer. Brenda will discuss the creative process, from seeing to translating that vision into the final image. Key topics of composition, creating visual depth, utilizing nature’s design, and applying expressive techniques will provide the basis for learning how to create more expressive images. The workshop will be a blend of extensive field sessions, visual presentations and thoughtful, helpful critiques of your work. Processing your RAW images in Lightroom, using HDR software, and applying creative computer techniques that can help you take your images creatively further will also be covered. September 29 - October 3, 2010.
Join Brenda and Charlie Borland of Aspen Photo Workshops on this photo adventure. The Colorado Rockies put on one of the most spectacular displays of fall color in the country. Learn from two pro nature/outdoor photographers while exploring stunning locations. We will make our base in Ouray Colorado and from there we will spend our days exploring the Sneffels Range, Dallas Divide, Historic Silverton and its narrow gauge railway, the Million Dollar Highway, historic sites, and the many back roads. We'll capture the hillsides ablaze in reds, yellows, and orange color as the fall season transitions, amidst the quaking aspens, ghost towns, rivers, valleys, and the best autumn colors in the west. Our "tours" are instructional journeys. They minimize classroom instruction and emphasize being in the field at the right time to create outstanding images of each location. We will have one informative and inspirational presentation, 1-2 sharing/review sessions where possible during the tours, and lots of hands-on help in the field if you need it. We photography along with you, yet are always there to answer any questions you have while making your pictures. Hence the name, Mentor Series. We've chosen our locations based on their scenic value and ability to provide great photo opportunities.

February 6-11: Death Valley: Desert Beauty MS
From Mesquite Flat Dunes by Stovepipe Wells, to Badwater, Zabriskie Point to Mosaic Canyon and places in between, we'll explore and photograph the stark beauty of this wonderful desert park. Winter can bring great clouds over our landscapes! Potential visit to the racetrack area dependent on road conditions. Lodging at Furnace Creek Ranch.
June 26-July 4, 2011: Glacier Bay Nat'l Park, Alaska
NOTE: SLIGHT DATE CHANGE from newsletter dates.
We had such a great time, we're going back again! Glacier Bay is the place of superlatives - everything is on a grand scale in terms of landscape, and the scenery is breathtaking. But there's more - puffins, nesting kittiwakes, raucous sea lions, adorable sea otters and pups, orcas, and humpbacks. Add the potential for sighting brown bears, moose - even wolves (though very elusive) and you have a rounded out trip with great wildlife opportunities. Beyond photography, the place is not-to-be-missed. Here, you'll stand on ground that is actually rising, with the weight of the retreating glacier off it's 'back'. You won't feel it, but you will see the evidence. As you travel deeper into the inlets and arms, you actually go back in time in terms of plant growth, and geology. Deep blue ice on the face of freshly calved glaciers could be hundreds of years old and is stunning to witness and capture in the camera. So join us next year. Final details are not yet posted on their site but will be in the next two months. Deposits are being taken now, however. This will fill - we only take 8 guests. Contact Dolphin Charters via email or call 1-800-472-9942 for more information and to register.
July 10-15, 2011: The Oregon Coast MS
Wide, reflective beaches, tide-pools, lighthouses, and fishing harbors are highlights of this stunning part of Oregon's coast. We'll travel from Newport to Bandon to capture the best of the area. Timed to take advantage of both low tides and the full moon.
July 24-29: High Country Color: Glacier National Park MS
Wildflower-filled meadows, stunning mountain scenery, clear rushing streams, incredible rocks, and more await our creative eye and cameras. We'll begin on the west side for 2 nights and move to the east side for the balance of the tour.
August 7-11: The Palouse: Late Summer Harvest MS
Harvest time is beautiful as the golden wheat, combined with plowed earth, and still-green legume fields creates a patchwork of rich colors. If you've done the Palouse in Spring, come see what this time of year has to offer! Special access and locations included on this tour. Details to follow.
Sept 18-23: The Grand Tetons: Autumn's Splendor MS
Stunning scenery of mountains reflected in calm waters, dramatic skies, golden aspens, and western scenes await your creative eye and camera on this tour. Sunrises and sunsets along the range and the Snake River provide outstanding photo opportunities.
October 26-30: Yosemite National Park: Autumn Glory MS
We're delighted to be heading back into Yosemite National Park, after Rocky Mountain School of Photography retired my class with them. Yosemite in late Autumn is stunning with quiet reflective waters, golden/burnt sienna leaves, majestic views, and the potential for unusual weather! Note this is a Wed-Sunday event. Pricing is $850
