We all remember those teachers that touched our lives in some positive way. Their passion ignited our own curiosity to learn; it helped to form our interests in the world around us at an early age. The enthusiastic sharing of their knowledge gave us enthusiasm, and their belief in us often instilled the confidence needed to push forward. They guided us along a path of discovery.

As a photography instructor, my goal is to help students to discover their personal vision, and to help them express it. It is a key role for me, while also infusing them with an enthusiasm for mastering the craft of photography, and a desire for continual visual exploration.

The camera points both ways; in expressing our subject, we are also expressing ourselves.” My esteemed colleague Freeman Patterson said this. How we respond to the scene or subject affects how we interpret it photographically. People often need to be encouraged to discover their feelings, their emotional reactions, in order to express those in a photograph.

Each person has a valuable, unique vision of the world around them that stems from their own cumulative experiences. An honest, yet constructive critique of the work is the best way I know to help students improve technique, all the while honoring their personal viewpoint.

Passion is contagious. What excites one person spreads out to touch the lives of others and it can open their eyes to new ways of seeing the world around them. In my photography workshops, my own passion for the craft of photography and for seeing deeply provides the base for an information-packed, fun, and inspirational workshop experience.

What a fantastic medium it is that allows us to express what we feel in a visual way, that allows us to make the moment stay forever, and to stimulate emotions in those that see our work!

"Brenda is not only a great photographer, she is a great teacher...She opened up my eyes to a whole new world of photography, and I can't wait to get out there and practice." Shelly Loree, 2005
