Botswana Safari

Rescheduled for March 2022 – exact dates to come!

Due to Covid 19 and travel restrictions, my second trip for 2020 was postponed to 2021. Sadly, we’ve again had to postpone this safari until 2022, but the GOOD NEWS is that their is still a spot open due to cancellations, but it won’t be for long!

These trips were planned initially as scouting trips, and as such I was able to offer an exciting opportunity to photograph and experience Botswana’s Okavango Delta at a very affordable price. We are keeping the price as close as possible to the 2020/2021 pricin thanks to the camps’ willingness to work with us. Details will follow soon.

The trip is comprised of 8 full days of all-inclusive safari and that also includes a 35-minute helicopter ride over the Delta, extra baggage allotment for internal flights, your own room with no single supplement charge once on safari in Botswana.

I’ve put together an affordable package without compromise. The three camps are luxury tented safari camps, offering deluxe comfort and the ambience that safaris are known for. We will have 2 private vehicles with expert drivers/guides, with ample room in the vehicles for flexible positioning for photography. I will rotate between the vehicles each safari drive, offering photo guidance.

READ ON!

With its unspoiled wilderness, Botswana is one of southern Africa’s great safari destinations. It is home to the largest fresh-water delta, the Okavango, and this water transforms a large area into a land of grassland savannah, papyrus reed-line channels, and small wooded islands, bordered in some areas by mainland forests. In the green season the waters are lower, yet there is still water in non-drought years, and this water is the lifeblood for birds and animals, creating different ecosystems and providing nourishment throughout its journey until it disappears in the Kalahari Desert. This abundance of year-round wildlife and bird life makes it great for photography at any time of the year.

Why March-April? Winter rains rains transform the brown winter landscape into a wondrous land of green. By late March, the rains are subsiding, yet the land is still lush and green. As quoted on the web, “…The clear air makes colors richer and deeper, the cloud-stacked sunsets are more intense – photographers will love the Green Season.”

The season offers all the wildlife opportunities of any other season, with the addition of great opportunities to see and photography wildlife babies, and colorful migratory birds. March offers all this without the high-season crowds and at lower cost.

Although specific wildlife is never guaranteed on a safari, you will definitely have the potential to see and photograph lionleopardelephant, black rhino and buffalo, along with a huge variety of equally impressive animals – antelopes, giraffe, zebras, wildebeest, red lechwe, puku, hippoand the elusive painted wolf, or wild dog. I can guarantee you that you will fill up your memory cards on this journey, along with your mind in experiences!

THE LODGES/CAMPS:

All three ‘camps’ were chosen for their opportunity to provide land or water-based activities to view and photograph wildlife while offering quality and traditional safari luxury.

  • Kwai River Lodge is ideally set in a wonderful grove of old indigenous Leadwood and Fig trees and boasts excellent views of Khwai River floodplain within the Moremi Game Reserve. Morning and afternoon game drives into the Moremi Game Reserve are a daily staple. The permanent water of the Khwai River makes it a hotspot for birdwatchers/bird photography. Many water bird species thrive here as well, including purple gallinule, saddle-billed stork, black stork, and kingfishers.

  • Savute Elephant Lodge lies within Chobe National Park, on the Savute Channel, and is home to a huge herd of elephants as well as lion prides, cheetah, leopards, and other wildlife. The birds are plentiful too with over 250 species, including the carmine bee-eaters and the red-crested Korhaan The surrounding landscape is quintessential Africa with its sweeping savanna, rocky outcrops, and marshlands.

  • Eagle Island Lodge enjoys a privileged position on a private island at the heart of the Okavango Delta. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the area consists of endlessly changing channels, tributaries and lagoons as well as floodplains, islands, and mainland areas. The lodge itself overlooks a wonderful lagoon that attracts a fantastic variety of big game and exotic birds. There is an abundance of bird and aquatic wildlife nearby with a large assortment of larger mammals such as elephant, buffalo, hippo, crocodile, as well as the ever-elusive big cats. The delta offers world class birding and includes prized species such as Pel’s fishing-owl, black coucal, long-toed plover, brown fire finch, and African fish eagle.

At Eagle Island, we’ll have the opportunity for several water-based excursions andan exciting 35-minute helicopter ride over the Delta – a not-to-be-missed experience!
