Western Ireland: Light & Landscape
May 8-17, 2022
Ireland’s western region is a treasure trove of photographic possibilities. Wild landscapes, rugged shorelines with amazing geological formations, crashing seas, rolling hills, stone forts and roes, and colorful villages will provide great opportunities to capture the essence of place. More information will be coming as we finalize the itinerary.
The itinerary is designed as an active, opportunity-packed journey in creative image-making. We’ll seek out ways to make our landscapes more expressive, our details more powerful. We’ll explore off the beaten track and find locations to capture the breathtaking beauty of Ireland’s rugged southwest. We’ll be guided by a local professional.
Days are long in May, but we plan to include sunrise and sunset light, each day, where possible, and weather permitting. You’ll have breaks in midday for a rest and lunch. It’s all about photography, but we’ll fit in some scrumptious meals for sure, and if you can stay up for it, explore the local music scene at a pub or two.
We can’t wait to share southwest Ireland’s rugged and picturesque beauty with you!

Though not strenuous, this instructional tour involves a moderate amount of walking or light hiking, on rugged pathways along the coast and on beaches. You should be agile enough to climb in/out of the van and carry your own gear on the hikes. Distances will vary but you should be able to walk up and down hills and up to 2 miles with your camera gear.
What you will learn
Our tours are instructional tours, and we love to help our clients make the best pictures possible. You’ll learn how to work with long exposures at the sea’s edge, using ND filters, along with many other techniques for landscape and nature photography.
